 “A Hallelujah Christmas”

Almost, oh, so near now. Do you know what time it is? Do you know that someone is coming? Do you know that the world is about to turn?

Stir up your might, and come to save us! Give us life, and we will call on your name. Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; let your face shine that we may be saved, pleads the psalmist.

Soon, Isaiah speaks and Matthew affirms, a young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel, God-with-us.

That tiny babe in a humble manger bed of hay is God-with-us? That itinerant preacher-teacher-healer in far-off dusty Galilee is God-with-us? that grown-up baby boy dying in odium and pain on a crude cross is God-with-us? yes, all God's beloved in Nativity, called to be saints, yes,m Jesus the Christ, the Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead (Rom. 1) is God-with-us, through whom we have received grace.

God-with-us, God incarnate, giver of grace and bringer of salvation, entered this world as we all did through the womb of a mother, is come to be present with us in all of life whether it be the mundane or the grandeur, the valley or the mountaintop, early or late in our years. Hallelujah indeed!

Where and how and in or through whom will you see Jesus, God-with-us in the coming week? How will you engage in God's turning of the world? How will you live the Hallelujah?
